Bot Wars is Compsocs robot themed 2 day event taking place on the 12th and 13th March 2010.- 2 day console and Rockband room
- Bot Wars Robot battle competition with NUIG students in home arena (details below) -open for entries
- Lego NXT Design Build and Code Challenge (details below) -open for entries
- Party in Galway’s best clubs and pubs each night.
All this and more, including a Mac vs PC vs Linux debate to break up the action and perhaps provide some comic relief!
Tickets for the entire 2 days (play and watch as much as you like and entry to view all competitions) €10 socs box Aras Na Mac Leinn. If you want to take part in the LAN Party, tickets are going to be €20, more info at http://compsoc.ie/lan Tickets can also be bought on the day, at the event. Bot WarsDuring the Bot Wars challenge each participating team is invited to build a remotely controlled robot (starter kits were offered to NUIG students in the form of remote control cars to build the robot around), rules apply to the weapons a robot may use and its general design, robots will face off in NUIG's own arena (details regarding round times and the arena will be given prior to the event). A fee of 30euro applies to teams from colleges other than NUIG (as NUIG's Bot Wars is funding its members to participate and also organize the event). DBC ChallengeThe Design Build Code challenge is a competition where teams of up to 3 students must design, build and program a Lego NXT robot (supplied on the day) to solve a posed problem, said problem will not be announced until the morning of the event, however extensive help in the form of tutorials relating to the problem will be given on www.compsoc.ie/wiki/botwars and starter code supplied on the day . Again a fee of 30euro applies per team entered. Each team must bring a laptop with certain software installed as defined on the wiki page.
