Welcome to our new members! To celebrate you all joining compsoc, we will be holding a welcome evening next Monday (26th) in the Space, Aras na Mac Leinn at 7 o'clock. There will be some short talks from some of the members of the committee on the benefits of being in compsoc, what we have planned for this year, games including portal 2 and LittleBigPlanet, and, of course, FREE PIZZA!
On a more serious note, our EGM is taking place in around 2 weeks on the 4th of October at 8pm in Meeting Room 1 Aras na mac leinn. The positions of PRO and secretary are up for grabs, so we hop to see you all there. Joining the committee means you get to help us make decisions on what we're going to do for the year, help us organize events and generally run the society. The 2 positions available have special responsibilities which we will cover on the night. Joining a societies' committee is a great experience, particularly at CompSoc :D

Like to code? Want to participate in a series of programming challenges with other amateur coders? Then you'll love CompSoc's first Code-a-thon of 2011!
Challenges will be presented on the day. There will be two mandatory problems to complete, with a selection of other problems to choose from afterwards. Experienced programmers will be on hand to help out with problems, so this is a fantastic opportunity to improve your programming skills. This one's just for fun, so don't worry if you consider yourself a total coding novice. Attendees are still recommended to have some sort of prior programming knowledge, even if it's just from your first few weeks of C or Python lectures.
This event will be taking place in "The Space" in Áras na Mac Léinn at 7pm on Monday, 7th November.
